In re Ms. Douglas's somewhat churlish cavil regarding Mr. Wilson's punctuation (Letters, Issue 11), to wit:
"Why you publish reportage that has quotes inside periods,",
perhaps it could be because the offending punctuation mark did not EXIST in the quote, but rather sprang forth full-grown, like Pallas Athena, from Mr. Wilson's own perfervid punctuational nightmare. All sentences, after all, are entitled to a decent burial, whether they meet their demise within someone else's quotation mark or not.
As to the rest, I cannot tell you when I was last affected to such effect. Or least effected to such affect.
Yrs pedantically,

PS - what I don't understand - as a graduate of the Bonhommie Academic for Misunderstood Folk Artistes, or BAMFA! - is how someone can string together conjunctive clauses one after another like so much popcorn as they roll like boxcars laden with Easter hams as they wend their way to NO for Mardi Gras.
Laissez le bon temps roulez, Y'all!
